Sustainable Packaging Options

Sustainable Packaging Options

Two C Pack can offer you the most sustainable packaging you will find anywhere. It begins with the decision to use paperboard packaging, which is a renewable and recyclable resource. Whatever your choice is, virgin SBS or recycled board with high post consumer content, we have solid relationships with a network of mills and distributors and will effectively source your desired substrate. Through our membership with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition we can perform a Life Cycle Assessment on your packaging, helping you choose a package with the desired environmental attributes. Next, your package will be converted in our brand new energy-efficient facility (powered by 100% wind energy). If you’re looking to add an eco-label to your package we can offer either SFI or FSC certification. And through it all, our dedicated and knowledgeable staff will work with you every step of the way to ensure your satisfaction.

Paperboard – A renewable and recyclable resource

When you are looking for an environmentally substrate for your product’s package, look no further than paperboard packaging. Paperboard comes from an infinitely renewable resource – trees. The U.S. forest products industry plants an average of 1.7 million trees every day — five new trees for every one harvested. And did you know there is more standing timber now in the U.S. than 50 years ago? Yes, it has increased by over 40%!

Not only is paperboard packaging renewable but it is highly recyclable. According to the EPA, over 62% of paper and paperboard packaging was recycled in 2010, which is two to three times that of plastic packaging. Further, paper and paperboard packaging typically account for more than 75% of all packaging material recovered for recycling. Whether made from virgin or recycled fiber, paperboard packaging is uniquely positioned to help you achieve your sustainability goals.

Material Selection

Whether you choose virgin or recycled paperboard, you are making an environmentally sound choice. But not all paperboard was created equal; there are many options for recycled content, coated or uncoated, basis weight, etc. Our knowledgeable staff can help you select the appropriate substrates that will not only perform but also possess environmentally friendly attributes.

FSC / SFI

Two C Pack can offer you either Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified packaging. Recent studies reveal that consumers are increasingly looking for eco-labels such as SFI & FSC on their products’ packaging. Most consumers believe that eco-labels are effective in helping bring changes to environmental and/or social problems. Moreover, placing a forest certification logo on your package is a great way to demonstrate to your customers your commitment to the environment. Customers will feel good about purchasing a product where the packaging substrate is sourced from a forest that is managed for sustainability and bio-diversity.

Packaging Life Cycle Assessment

Through our membership in the SPC we are able to offer customers a useful tool to help “green” up your packaging. COMPASS (Comparative Packaging Assessment) is online design software that allows packaging designers and engineers to assess the human and environmental impacts of package designs using a life cycle approach. COMPASS helps packaging designers make more informed material selections and design decisions by providing quick visual guidance on a common set of environmental indicators. COMPASS is now used by such companies as UPS, Proctor & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson.
